Mulberry Alexa Bag

One of our favorite bags we have seen at Bags Couture has been the prized mulberry alexa. I love the way the leather is so soft.

I love that you can wear the Mulberry Alexa bag over your shoulder or cross-body with the straps.

The interior is quite roomy but if you do need more room you can bump yourself up to an Oversized Alexa  or bump yourself down to a cute Alexa Mini.

Ever since owning this bag, I've fallen in love with the brand. The Mulberry style is sophisticated with whimsy, no doubt infused by Creative Director Emma Hill who has taken the top creative spot there since 2008 and came up with the design for the Mulberry Alexa.

The Alexa bag is named for style icon, Alexa Chung and is a cross-between their classic Bayswater bag and their men's Elkington briefcase. Since it debuted in 2010, Alexa Chung has been seen carrying the bag in all it's incarnations and it has quickly become an "It bag" among celebrities, mostly British.

Leighton Meester wore an Alexa bag as Blair on Gossip Girl. It's also going to make it's debut this fall on the big screen with Sarah Jessica Parker in this September's I Don't Know How She Does It.

                     Our  favorite photos by far are of fashion model, photographer and blogger Hanneli Mustaparta who seems to always be carrying a stylish Mulberry bag.

As handbag lovers, we’ve been very lucky recently. Luxury brands are notoriously secretive about their behind-the-scenes processes, particularly their manufacturing, and anyone who knows anything about the counterfeit trade knows exactly why that is. Letting people behind the curtain not only risks trade secrets, but it also chances taking some off the luxurious mystique off of the final product. Don’t be fooled, that mystique factors heavily into the prices that these brands are able to charge for their goods.
Last week, though, Chanel threw open its doors and let a bit of sun shine on the work that goes into a Chanel Classic Flap. This week, our interest goes to Mulberry, which has released images to document the making of this beauty.

Chanels is surf up

 

Seriously? Chanel is just not messing around with this stuff! Check out the chanel surfboards this week!
I'm no surfer and quite frankly, I can't see putting one of these PARTICULAR little beauties in the water, although they are absolutely legit functionally. Chanel's luxury surfboards are shaped in black, white and red monochrome carbon fiber, polyurethane and fiberglass. Brilliantly- they are equipped with special spaces on the back for easy wall hanging. Honestly, these beauties need to be hung like the pieces of art that they are!
You can purchase these surfboards from Chanel for €9000 , but why would you do that when we have an amazing chanel bag for less than half the price!

Branding Process

At bags Couture we realise the importance of branding and have spent many hours since starting the business creating the brand. We took the following steps in the branding process;

We conducted extensive research on designer handbags and the market in which we would be competing in.Looking at the competition for designer bags (and the competition is rife,take it from us!!) we needed to make a niche and differentiate ourselves from our competitors…we hit a wall on this one!

 After much brainstorming we decided to define what makes our brand unique and how it will slot into an available space in the market and in the minds of our customer.

So what would be our point of differentiation????

1. Excellent customer care

2. A luxurious feel to our brand displayed in our logo and online presence

Our aim is to have a brand image that will permeate everything from our marketing communications to our product design, business character and customer experience. We proceeded to create four logos to develop our brand identity and asked our customers to give us feedback on which the preferred. One logo was the clear winner so we further developed it in photoshop and are delighted to say that we feel the image reflects our brand identity perfectly!

 We then spent many hours searching through blogger for background colours, seeking a cool sophisticated look that would convey our message of luxury and we settled on greys and blacks. We then ensured our twitter account had the same colours and feel as the blog to ensure a streamlined and professional look.

We added links from our blog to enable the reader to press the desired button and it will take them straight to the desired social media site e.g.: facebook, twitter and google +

We are in the process of developing a suite of stationary, business card and brochure and our branding strategy is to ensure that they carry the same look and feel and our social media platforms. We will keep you posted on our progress!

My name is Sarah and I am the co-owner of a handbag company Bags Couture. My colleague Nasimba and I own the business and to set the scene for you, she sources the bags and I am the Sales Director! We have been in business for one year and thankfully we are going from strength the strength.

We both have backgrounds in fashion. I worked in management for a bag company while I put myself through college. Nasimba got a job at Vogue Magazine after she graduated from college. We both share the same passion for handbags always wanted to own our own business.

We love selling bags, any woman can throw a bag over her shoulder, look in a mirror, and fall in love!

Starting this business can be the most rewarding thing we have ever done. Seeing the beautiful designer bags arriving with us each week and watching our happy customers getting a amazing bag at a great price is just super! We don't think of what we do as work; it's fun!

Evaluation of Competition in Business

Before setting up this business we went to Google’s keyword tool and simply typed in ‘designer handbags’.The results show us that the term itself gets over 40,000 searches a month and told us competition was high.....yikes!!! At least we knew there was potential! For this reason, we decided that the best game plan was to target more of a ‘niche’ market.  We went back to your keyword research tool and searched for the following:

• Italian designer handbags
• Used designer handbags
• Authentic designer handbags
• Rent designer handbags
• Vintage designer handbags
• French designer handbags

These are smaller niche areas  but they will capture a more focused. We have decided on the authentic designer bags which has searches of 8,100 global monthly searches.
